"The Night at the Museum" in the capital: the main events
At the third weekend of May "The Night at the Museum" will take place in the capital – for the eighth time in Moscow and for to tenth time in Europe.
At that night more than 250 most popular capital and federal museums and galleries will take part in the event, including the State Museum of Fine Arts named after Pushkin, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of Moscow, Multimedia Art Museum, Bulgakov Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, GTsSI, Central House of Painters, “Winzavod”, Artplay, etc.
On May 17, the majority of places will be open free of charge from 18:00 to midnight and some of them – till dawn. The special schedule traditionally features wide programme of film screenings, lectures, concerts and performances. Some cultural places will be open for everyone indeed: for people with disabilities special excursions will be organized. One of the main events of the museums’ night will include activities in streets. For the first time in the history of the project foreign artists are involved, too, that brings "The Night at the Museum" in Moscow into the European context.
The British curator David Green will unveil an open air Museum of video-art at Kuznetsky bridge: video hits from around the world will be shown on a giant screen. Pedestrian areas will smile at passers-by with huge “smiley faces” from soap foam (floating public art by Stewart Semple).
Monuments will speak – citing poems and excerpts from the works of great authors. Jazz, blues and classical music will be heard at the city streets: platforms with musicians will go on a tour along the main roads and make stops by districts’ cultural centers and exhibition halls for 20-minute concerts.
"The Night at the Museum" will be seen from far away: the object of public art will appear in the city that can be dismantled piece by piece - as a reminder of the perceived experience of meeting with art.
"The Night Museum tour - 2" looks like promising main adventure at dusk: a march with the participation of actors, musicians, curators and painters will bring together several art places.
Fifty free buses with the emblem of the event will go by the capital streets. “Mostaxi” company for the second consecutive year is the official free carrier of "The Night at the Museum" action.
The Department of culture of the city of Moscow with the support of Visa – the general partner of the project – is traditionally the organizer of the eighth "The Night at the Museum".
